Microchip Technology LAN8814 4-Port Gigabit Ethernet Transceivers are low-power, quad-port triple-speed (10BASE-T/100BASE-TX/1000BASE-T) Ethernet physical layer transceiver (PHY) that provides transmission and reception of data on standard CAT-5, CAT-5e, CAT-6, and Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) cables. The LAN8814 supports industry-standard QSGMII (Quad Serial Gigabit Media Independent Interface) and Q-USGMII (Quad Universal Serial Gigabit Media Independent Interface). These interfaces provide a chip-to-chip connection to four Gigabit Ethernet MACs using a single serialized link (differential pair) in each direction.
The Microchip LAN8814 Transceivers deliver high-accuracy time-stamping functions to enable IEEE-1588 solutions using Microchip Ethernet switches and custom solutions based on SoCs and FPGAs. The LAN8814 additionally provides Synchronous Ethernet (SyncE) and TSN frame preemption support.
Board cost is reduced, and layout is simplified on the device, using on-chip termination resistors for the line-facing differential pairs and integrating a Linear Drop-Out regulator (LDO) controller to drive a low-cost MOSFET to supply the 1.1V core.
The LAN8814 implements diagnostic features to facilitate system bring-up and debugging in production testing and product deployment. The LinkMD TDR-based cable diagnostic identifies faulty copper cabling. Integrated loopback functions verify analog and digital data paths.
The LAN8814 is housed in a 128-pin RoHS Compliant TQFP package with commercial (0°C to +85°C) and industrial (-40°C to +85°C) temperature ranges.
